Chaos Week

Are you ready?  Is your team painted?  Is your roster made?  Do you have a place to stay?  Do you know when you’re leaving?  Have you been working out just in-case you win that massive trophy?  Chaos Cup is mere days away!  The excitement is building toward a crescendo that will be released in Palatine, Illinois this weekend.  The Chaos Cup is the US Major Blood Bowl tournament and there is a chance it breaks the century mark this year, just 18 needed at the door.

There are many side events to keep the fun going as well.  There’s Friday night bowling for those who applied.  The Chaotic Brush events will also be going on through out the weekend.  One of the side events people will be paying attention to is the Podcast Challenge.  Sigmund Lamar is feeling slighted by the Podcast big boys and is willing to resort to potty-talk to voice his displeasure.  Hey Siggy, save the vitriol for Hoke.

An outstanding weekend of Chaotic Blood Bowl action will be had by all.

Are You Ready for Chaos Cup 2014?

I know most, if not all, of the people who skim this blog have already registered for Chaos Cup but I just wanted to send out a reminder.

Chaos Cup is the Blood Bowl Major for the United States tournament scene.  The tournament will be held at the Holiday Inn Express in Palatine, Illinois.  For more information on the tournament check out the links in this post.

The KUBBL has had multiple representatives at Chaos Cups in the past.  Or best showing was coach Beaux finished 14th in 2011.  This year it appears only two players from KUBBL will be going and one player is taking a tier three build so it's unlikely that 14th will be topped.  This year's event is already attracting a lot of players.  Sixty-plus players have already registered and a 100 coach tournament may be within reach.

All of the specifics are on the site so go there.  See you in September!

Zlurpee Bowl X - Wrap Up

Zlurpee Bowl X just ended a day ago and already thoughts and preparations are going in to Zlurpee Bowl XI.  That's quite a testament to how great an event it is to attend and play in.  I separate the two because there is so much going on outside of the event.

Friday, before the tournment, began with an un-birthday party for the beloved tournament star player, Zlurpus.  Tournament organizer, Xtreme hosted the party along with wife Jennyafur at their home.  Coach DarkOrk20 welcomed guest in his own way by offering all attendees, of legal drinking age, a shot of tequila in a commemorative shot glass for them to keep.  Many welcomes were expressed and games played.  A cake was even made for Zlurpus.  Zlurpus was unceremoniously re-killed? at his own party and failed his regen flip as performed by Xtreme.  Yet some how that undead fellow showed up at the next days game to represent on the Blood Bowl pitch.  Those stars have some great resiliency.

Saturday morning brought with it the excitement of games to come and our Kalamadoom boys, KUBBLers, started of very well.  All three of the coaches went through day 1 towards the top of the charts.  Coach Furry actually had the best day one going 3-0-1 and being in a tie for second when Saturday came to a close.  Saturday night brought some more gaming.  Coach Randroid joined others at Xtreme's house for a rousing game of DEADZONE by Mantic Games.  Coach Beaux learned and played some Eclipse.

Sunday was day two of the event which saw two of the Kalamadoom boys rise and one descend.   Coach Beaux got all the way up to a tie for second place in the tournament.  Randroid tied for 15th and Furry tied for 17th.  Those were places determined by final points, they're not representative of how our coaches actually place as far as awards go.  The final round of Zlurpee Bowl has "Grudge Match for players other than the top four, so points are fully indicative of what happened.

On the ride home we were treated to a special disc produced by Siggyllama of his new Blood Bowl podcast and some extras.  Very talented.  Some of the song lyrics that stood out to us were from "Apoth My Dice" which did cause us to ponder, how do snakes bite with their eyes?

All and all it was a wonderful event!  Thank you's go out to Xtreme and all those who made it possible.

Randroid

Beaux (sans bandana?)

Furry

Big Congrats goes out to Ombi for winning ZBX!

Zlurpee Bowl X

The tenth edition of one of the best Blood Bowl tournaments is taking place July 11 and 12 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.  Zlurpee Bowl is the brain child of Xtreme who has been playing in Blood Bowl tournaments since 2003 according to his NAF record.  Zlurpee Bowl has its own website here.  It's chalk full of all kinds of information about the tournament and we highly suggest you check it out.

Welcome Banner

This tournament is especially important to us because of what it has done.  Because ZB exist the Zlurpcast exist, and that podcast helped people become more aware of tournament play for the game we all enjoy.  The tournament scene in the Midwest is especially robust because of this.  Fifty plus of this years participants hail from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio.  But it's not a strictly regional event, there will be players from Canada, Florida, Oklahoma, California, Missouri, New York, Utah and Nebraska.  (Hmm, I notice an Iowa sized gap in there.)

Three members of the KUBBL will be traveling to this event.  Granted we haven't played a season of league play in quite some time but the three of us will be, Kalamadoom.  Coach Beaux will be leading a Lizardman squad onto the pitch, coach Randroid will be playing a Necromantic team and coach Furry will be bringing Dwarfs.  After this weekend check out Drinkin' and Modelin', Furry's Painting Blog and here for recaps and rundowns of the tournament action.

The cool thing about this and any Blood Bowl tournament is the people.  Not only do we get six fun rounds of Blood Bowl action, we also spend multiple hours playing other great games with all the other players.  There will be board games, card games, miniature games, and even a little Roshambo.

So a huge thanks goes out to Xtreme and all those who are helping him put on this awesome event!  Only three more days!

Tourney Time!

Dog Bowl II is just over a week away!  There has been a lack of Blood Bowl action for the KUBBL lately so having a tournament to tide us over should wet some pallets for this game.  This will be the fourth tournament we will be hosting in Kalamazoo.  The first two were Special "K" Cups and now the Dog Bowl has taken over as our tournament so that it can coincide with the Marmalade Dog.  The Marmalade Dog is a gaming convention put on by the West Michigan Gamers Guild.

Let's look back on the past three tournaments to get some statics and records for Kalamazoo Ultimate Blood Bowl League tournaments.

Winners:
Special "K" Cup I:  Beaux

Special "K" Cup I:  Falcon
Special "K" Cup II:  Flyingdingle
Dog Bowl I:  Delevus

Most Touchdowns:
Special "K" Cup I:  Delevus

Dog Bowl I:  Valdric

We have yet to have a back-to-back champion or a repeater.  We'll see if Rowdykatie can follow-up last years dwarf roll or if Beaux or Delevus can step it up again.

We're looking forward to Dog Bowl II!  Get out here!

We here at The Spiked Ball and the KUBBL hope all of you had a very merry Christmas and will be enjoying a safe and happy new year.  We hope to be starting our next season of the KUBBL within the first month of 2014.  What will the new year bring?  Hopefully the dice will start hitting the table shortly.

Crickets

Every year this happens.   A great season of the KUBBL wraps-up and we all take a breath.  At least one time a year that breath becomes a nap.  ZZZzzzz. Shh, don't wake the baby.  We are in full on sleep mode.  It has been almost one month since we have even played a game of Street Bowl, let alone proper Blood Bowl.

What's a Blood Bowl junkie to do with all this down time?  The answer... Tournament prep!  The KUBBL will be invading Jingle Bowl II!  Currently three members are confirmed to be attending and a fourth is a strong possibility.  Jingle Bowl won't be taking place until December 7 but already 36 players have paid!

Jingle Bowl is a holiday themed charity event promoting the spirit of giving.  Help for charity and handing out BB beat downs, what could be better?  The information for the tournament including rules, location, and giveaways can be found here.

If you aren't able to get to the "Murder Mitten" for this event, we here at The Spiked Ball, would like to encourage everyone who is able to do their part and give what they can.  The Blood Bowl committee is a very giving bunch, as there are many charity tournaments throughout the year.  Thank you so much to all the tournaments like the Jingle Bowl for giving us a chance to get some BB and giving in.

Promising

Anyone who has played this game for any length of time knows it's complexities never end.  You can think you have the hang of it and then you play against someone who beats you with ease.  Then again you can beat a superior coach who's been playing forever.  To be honest it can be maddening.

Last night some current KUBBL coaches had a game/teaching session with two new prospective coaches.  The games were played against two of the more experienced coach in the league with a floater coach, going between the two.  Both of the new coaches took to the game quickly and appeared, not only to gain a solid hold on the basics of the game, but they seemed to enjoy playing.

We are looking forward to these coaches joining the KUBBL if they so choose and we are always on the lookout for new blood.
___________________________________________________________________________

During the break, some KUBBL coaches will be trying their hands at a Blood Bowl variant, Street Ball.  We are excited about giving it a go and are even planning to add it to our winter, regional tournament, The Dog Bowl.  Check out, the KUBBL's own, Randroid's Street Ball pitch in progress.

New Coach Training

Some members of the KUBBL will be training some potential new coaches this evening.  Hopefully, this strengthens the league.  The KUBBL is working toward increasing the talent pool and then starting KUBBL 6.  If there are any other interested coaches in the Kalamazoo area get in contact with the league via our website, www.kalamazoo.bloodbowlleague.com, or @TheKUBBL on twitter.

Chaos Cup 2013

KUBBL 5 has come to a llloooonnnngggg break.  Hopefully the regular season will be wrapping up by September 9 then the playoffs can start by the 16th.  The Khorne Red Backs deserve the chance to finish-up their undefeated season by bringing coach Randroid his first KUB Bowl Championship.

In the meantime, Randroid will be representing the KUBBL at this weekend's Chaos Cup.  He will be playing six rounds of games against coaches from all over the globe.  Last years CC was huge and a great time was had by all.  This years event should be even bigger.  Hopefully, KUBBL will send more representatives in the future.

I'm sure there will be multiple tweets, updates and photos from the event.
Randroid will probably have a post event rundown on his blog, Drinkin' and Modelin'

Check out http://chaoscup.com/ for more information.

We here at the KUBBL hope everyone has an absolute blast.

Team Spotlight: The Cantina Killers

The Cantina Killers team badge

The Cantina Killers

A lowly bunch of Scum and Villainy. These intergalactic bounty hunters are hunting down all bountied players. Once they can afford their leader Jabba, they will begin placing bounties with all excess cash. The Assassin Crew will foul each and every opportunity. They have one mission, collect on bounties by killing you bunch of Nerf Herders!

- Beaux

The Cantina Killers are the second chaos dwarf team coached by Beaux.  The first was the Cantina Killers, see the difference.  The original Killers were an incredible team but never won the KUB Bowl even though coach Beaux has the most KUBBL Championships of all coaches.  This edition of the Killers has solidified itself as a playoff participant and are hoping to bring another championship to Beaux.

Player Spotlight - Ender Wigans

(stock photo)

Ender Wigans

Anyone that knows anything about this great game knows that the wood elf war dancer is one of, if not the best starting player in the game.  They have speed, agility, the ability to stay standing, are killing machines... wait, killing machines?  Well at least Wigans is.  Ender has played 5 games and has 5 casualties caused.  That is quite an impressive mark in and of itself.  The fact that makes it more impressive is that 4 of the 5 casualties have been KILLS.  Ender has taken his name quite literally.  He has been responsible for ending all those lives.  Only the most recent of his homicides was apothed successfully.

Wigans has also paced his team in scoring.  He is responsible for 7 of the team's 11 touchdowns.

Team Spotlight: Detroit Devastators

Detroit Devastators team badge

The Detroit Devastators were formed after the rebuilding of Detroit City in 2025. They transported back in time to play a seminal role as spoilers and malcontents in the KUBBL circa 2013. Denying accusations that they are their own fathers – the Devastators are quite likeable off the pitch.

The Devastators apparently hired a senile, aging, washed up coach in an effort to make other teams lower their guard thinking this team of losers stands no chance. Wink, wink.

Also the best,, auto-inspired, mercenary, well-paid fan club in the league.

*Special thanks to coach T Rex*

Over the past season and a half the Devastators have built themselves up to be quite a good passing team.  In the mold of some other human throwers Least Heat Moon has thrown 16 completions in only nine games played.

Though coach T Rex hasn't been in the KUBBL very long he has taken his team to some great heights.  The team boast a helicopter, a team bus, dinosaur mascots, modified player appearances, and their own programs to name a few feature other team just don't have.  Like other "Little Caesarian" franchises of Detroit, the ownership is willing to put money into their team, to bring the fans back to the thumb.

Player Spotlight - The Professor

 Plinyelder.jpg
 (stock photo)
The Professor

Of course the most interesting member of The GrymmLurke Lads is himself a "The".   The Professor is the eldest of the Lads' sibling Witches.  He had a rough start to his career due to a serious tripping related injury that ended in him sustaining a crack in his already low armor.  The Lads are full of players that are well-rounded and The Professor is a standout in this area.  Determined to make up for his slow start to the team, the fans, and the family name, The Professor has earned his name by taking his opponents to school.
